Crafting: Soap Making

Wednesday = Mommy Night!

So every Wednesday night, my wonderful Hubby takes Avery so I can work on all the projects I have running around in my head. (btw - how lucky am I?) Any hoo, here is what I worked on tonight... SOAP!

Goat's Milk Soap to be exact. I've been reading about the benefits of Goat's Milk Soap, and have been wanting to make some for a while now. I have severe KP,  Keratosis Pilaris and almost nothing works to sooth the bumps. I've gone to a dermatologist, who gave me body wash and lotion to use at $80! For one month's worth! But I bought a Zum Bar of Goat's Milk ZumBarSoap for $5.50 at a local Apothcary store, to see if it would work for me.

IT HAS! My skin is smoother, the bumps are calming down, and I love the smell of the Almond fragrance. (Maybe that might just be the Dutch in me!) But I'm a bargain-hunter, and crafter, so I thought of how fun it might be to make my own. Then I did the research, and deciding I'm not adventureous enough to work with lye directly, I bought a small batch of melt and pour from Hobby Lobby . I also bought some fragrances, and some fresh goats milk to add to the batch.

It litterally took 5 minutes for the mix to melt, and then about 1 hr for it to harden. I can't wait to use it and see if it works as well as the ZumBar. (I made these in a Honey/Almond scent) And 4 bars was about $5.

I'll keep you posted to let you know how it works!

And maybe next time I'll be brave enough to get my hands on some lye? Or I might just stick to pre-made bases, cause they are SO easy!!

Crafting: Butterfly Mobile

I picked up some cute sparkly butterflies from the Dollar Store, and knew I wanted to do something with them!

I remember as a kid covering embroidery hoops with ribbon to make various projects, and there is a noticable blank space in our nursery, right above where the glider is. Every time I feed Avery, I notice her looking around as if to say "C'mon mom, give me something to look at!" So, here you go Avery!

I used some ribbon that was left over from our wedding. I love the color - Victorian Lilac, and I love the idea of using things from our wedding in things for her room. I know it's a little thing, but it's nice to look around and see things that were for Andy & me, that have now been re-purposed to be for Andy, Avery & me!

I've hung it in a temporary spot, and she can't keep her eyes off it! Its really neat when the sun hits the rhinestones on the butterflies, and sends sparkles all over the room!

Crafting: Flower Hair Clips

I have been so excited about these, and maybe I've gone a little overboard!

It started when I found a bunch of 7 flower heads for $1 at Dollar Tree. I have seen the adorable clip on flowers for $6 each in the store, and figured I would be able to make a few for less than $6. Here are the first couple Flower Hair Clips I made

Then my sister-in-law requested purple, so Yeah! I got to go looking for an appropriate purple, and found green and yellow too! Here's Avery rocking out with the purple flower on our walk

And here is Avery at the office with the Green Flower Hair Clip

The bonus has been that Avery loves staring at all the different colored flowers, I've clipped them to the top of the curtains in her room, and she just stares at them! I've even clipped them to her mobile (hmmm, maybe a flower clip mobile is in her future?)

And here are all the flowers I have left to make into hair clips!

Here I am, starting a new Adventure!

My name is Kate, I am a wife, mother, and above all, a crafter :-)
I just had a little baby girl, and I find I can't wait to make all sorts of fun things for her!! Recently my friend suggested I start blogging to keep track of all the great things I do!

Here are some swaddling blankets, I think these are the first things I made for her

Little Avery is really long, and every time we tried to swaddle her, her toes would stick out as soon as we finished wrapping her up!

So I took a trip to JoAnn's to pick up some fabric, and a little measuring, cutting and sewing later, viola! Swaddling blankets big enough for for our silly monkey.

The finished size of each blanket ended up being 50" squared. Hopefully these last a LONG time!!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and hopefully you follow me to see all the fun things I create!
